Mark C. Lichtenwalner has 26 years of experience in the senior housing field. After receiving his Bachelor of Science degree in Business & Hotel Administration from the University of New Hampshire, he joined Marriott International and worked for 18 years in both the hotel/resort and the senior living divisions. While working in the hotel division he directed Sales and Marketing efforts at various hotel properties and then worked as the Regional Director of Revenue Management for the Northeast region, on the team that piloted revenue management strategies in the hotel industry.
Mark transferred to Marriott Senior Living (MSL) in 1994 and directed the pre-opening sales and marketing efforts and operations as the General Manager of Maplewood Park Place, a very upscale Continuing Care Retirement Community in Bethesda Maryland. His team achieved exceptional results in the areas of Investor Relations, Resident and Team Member satisfaction. In 1997 Mark was promoted to the position of Area Manager (New Jersey properties) for MSL and directed the startup of 6 new Brighton Gardens Assisted Living/Memory Care communities and was responsible for revenues totaling $55M. He piloted a community fee initiative that generated $1M in incremental revenue for the NJ region. Marriott then implemented the strategy company wide and generated $13M in incremental revenue the following year.
Mark joined Classic Residence by Hyatt (now Vi) in 2001 as Regional Vice President of Operations overseeing 7 communities in Florida with revenues totaling $100M. In 2004, he joined the Westport Senior Living Investment Fund as Vice President of Operations to direct operations for the funds stabilized assets in Florida totaling 1,800 units and then founded AgeWell Living in 2008 with his business partner Larry Landry. During this time, Mark also worked as a Managing Director at Masterpiece Living, a company founded by Larry and his brother Dr. Roger Landry, in the areas of strategic planning and revenue management.
