Who We Are

Mark C. Lichtenwalner has 26 years of experience in the senior housing field. After receiving his Bachelor of Science degree in Business & Hotel Administration from the University of New Hampshire, he joined Marriott International and worked for 18 years in both the hotel/resort and the senior living divisions. While working in the hotel division he directed Sales and Marketing efforts at various hotel properties and then worked as the Regional Director of Revenue Management for the Northeast region, on the team that piloted revenue management strategies in the hotel industry.

Mark transferred to Marriott Senior Living (MSL) in 1994 and directed the pre-opening sales and marketing efforts and operations as the General Manager of Maplewood Park Place, a very upscale Continuing Care Retirement Community in Bethesda Maryland. His team achieved exceptional results in the areas of Investor Relations, Resident and Team Member satisfaction. In 1997 Mark was promoted to the position of Area Manager (New Jersey properties) for MSL and directed the startup of 6 new Brighton Gardens Assisted Living/Memory Care communities and was responsible for revenues totaling $55M. He piloted a community fee initiative that generated $1M in incremental revenue for the NJ region. Marriott then implemented the strategy company wide and generated $13M in incremental revenue the following year.

Mark joined Classic Residence by Hyatt (now Vi) in 2001 as Regional Vice President of Operations overseeing 7 communities in Florida with revenues totaling $100M. In 2004, he joined the Westport Senior Living Investment Fund as Vice President of Operations to direct operations for the funds stabilized assets in Florida totaling 1,800 units and then founded AgeWell Living in 2008 with his business partner Larry Landry. During this time, Mark also worked as a Managing Director at Masterpiece Living, a company founded by Larry and his brother Dr. Roger Landry, in the areas of strategic planning and revenue management.

David M. Mills has 25 years of experience in the Senior housing field. After receiving his Bachelor of science degree, a dual major in Business Communications and Nutritional Dietetics, at Ohio University, he joined Marriott International and worked in all the growing divisions of the company for 19 years: Marriott Management Services, Marriott Hotels and Resorts, and Marriott Senior Living. He was recruited by Marriott Senior Living in 1995 as Regional Food & Beverage Director and Corporate Chef for over 65 communities. In this capacity, he directed Food and Beverage operations in Independent Living, Assisted Living, Memory Care and Skilled Nursing communities. In his next assignment, David accepted the position of Executive Director for The Woodlands, in Houston Texas, a community of 439 residents with a 120-bed skilled nursing unit and a joint commission home health company.

Five Star Quality Care (FSQC) recruited David to a Regional Director of Operations position where he was responsible for nine communities, six of which were Continuing Care Retirement Communities (CCRC’s) with 520 beds of licensed skilled nursing. David’s team improved from being the worst region in FSQC when he joined the company to being the second-best region in under a year and increased the asset values by over 30%. During this time, David also identified acquisitions for FSQC which resulted in adding four communities to the company’s portfolio.

Sunrise Senior Living, after buying Marriott Senior Living’s portfolio, recruited David to Florida to oversee all levels of care for two large communities, on the gulf coast of Florida. After this assignment, he joined Bell Senior Living (BSL) as Vice President of Operations where he directed operations for all the Skilled Nursing beds in the southern region. The value of BSL’s portfolio at the time that David joined the company was $189M. He was responsible for all communications to the investor’s groups, lenders, and for reporting on HUD changes. He also directed all future capital improvement plans. BSL sold the portfolio of 26 communities 5 years later for $304M.

David joined AgeWell Living in 2011 as the Executive Director of La Posada, a CCRC with 290 units (IL, AL, MC, SNF), located in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. In his current role of Partner, President and COO for AgeWell Living, David oversees all aspects of operations in the company’s portfolio of communities.

Lawrence L Landry, in 1998, founded Wesport Advisors, Ltd., an investment management company, located in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. Westport was the general partner of the Westport Senior Living Investment Fund, LP, a $550 million limited partnership investing in senior housing communities. From 1998 until 2014, Westport funded, developed and asset managed new developments with a total of 900 units and stabilized communities totaling 1,800 units throughout the United States. It was also during this time in 2008 that AgeWell Living was created by Larry and his business partner Mark Lichtenwalner.

Prior to the formation of Westport and AgeWell Living, Larry was Chief Investment Officer of the John D and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, a position he held for ten years. In that capacity his primary responsibility was the management of the Foundation’s $4 billion in public and private investments, including overseeing the Foundation’s real estate assets and operations in Florida. Larry designed and implemented a strategy to divest and devolop over 100,000 acres owned by the Foundation in Florida. During this time, Larry gained considerable experience in asset and real estate development.

Prior to the MacArther Foundation, Larry was Chief Finacial Officer and Chief Investment Officer with Southern Methodist University, Swarthmore College and Clark University. He has served on the board of directors for Computervision Corporation, WCI, Greystone Communities, Inc., MacArthur Beach State Park Conservation Board, and Grassy Waters Preserve. Currently he serves on the Board of Trustees of Clark Univerisity, chairs the Investment Committee and was formerly Chair of the Board of Trustees. Larry helped create The Investment Fund for Foundations (TIFF), which is a mutual fund for Foundations and Public Charities, where he served as its first chairman. Larry was named by AACSB as one of the top 100 business leaders in the world.

Larry graduated from Clark University with a B.S. in Business Administration and an MBA in Finance. He also studied at Harvard Business Schools’ Institute for Educational Management.
